Over the years I've been a patron of the illustrative arts and early member of
ASFA (The Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists,) a radar technician on a naval
destroyer escort, a playwright and composer, a small press publisher, an editor of an academic journal, a book reviewer, a professional philosopher (who talked his way into a non-existent Masters Degree program at an Ivy League School), a spouse and business partner to a book cover artist, a computer repairman, a course designer and teacher, a technical writer, an early designer of CD-ROM based documentation, a steering committee member for the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association for Software Design, an avid reader and book collector and a freelance writer.
I spent 20 years working in the high tech industry, focusing on how to make technology accessible and understandable to ordinary people.
I was born in New York City and grew up in a Long Island suburb. Over the years
I also lived in Delaware, Illinois, Pennsylvania and California. Since the
latter part of 2005 I've called Rensaelear County, New York home. I also spent 3½ years living on the
USS. Richard L. Page (FFG-5) which moved from
Elefsis, Greece to Philadelphia, PA to Norfolk, VA; a year and a half was spent cruising the Mediterranean.
I
have an 20 year-old son, Max, who lives in
Placitas, NM. I'm
currently living with my parents on 62 acres of what was once part of a small New England farm in North Petersburg, NY. After 30+ years of living in dormitories, on a
ship, and in apartments and town homes, it's a big change having 62 acres on
which to roam. A few acres have been cleared, but most of the land is wooded,
extending about 1/3 the way up a hill. The western edge borders on the
Little Hoosic River. You can see a bit of the house near the top of this picture. It
was taken in the morning from the Webster Street Bridge over the Little Hoosic. Find out more about my new home here.
It's a beautiful location and I'm looking forward to exploring it further.
I'm just finishing work on a degree in communications/journalism and philosophy, with a minor in physics. I'm also starting work at the Stratton VA Medical Center. And I'm continuing to work as a freelance writer.
